Search puts you on the shortlist. Your website decides who gets the call.

Homeowners shortlist a few local tradespeople from search, the map and recommendation sites, then choose on what they can see: photographs of finished jobs, the area covered, a free written quote, the reviews. The free report reads your site beside the rivals you name.

Your buyers

How buyers choose between builders, plumbers and the trades.

For a homeowner, hiring a builder, plumber, roofer or decorator is a leap of trust: someone is coming into the house, and getting it wrong is expensive. They lean on whatever evidence they can find before they call.

That evidence is mostly photographs of finished jobs, a clear list of the work the firm takes on, the area covered, whether quotes are free and written, and any guarantees or trade association membership. A homeowner planning an extension looks for different proof from one with a burst pipe, and a site that only serves one loses the other.

Reviews decide a great deal: turning up when promised, tidiness, sticking to the quote. A firm with good reviews scattered across three sites, and none on its own pages, hides its best proof from the homeowner who is reading.

A week in your market

The moments that cost or win you work.

A composite, illustrative week of the kind of thing that happens in this trade. It is not a customer's diary and nothing in it is measured.

  1. Monday

A kitchen fit goes to the second quote

You quoted for a kitchen fit. The homeowner chose a rival whose site showed several finished kitchens with a short description of each job.

Why did they choose someone else?
  2. Tuesday

A rival starts paying for the map

A competitor starts appearing at the top of local results with an ad label. Your enquiries drop and you are not sure why.

    Are rivals' ads beating mine?
  3. Wednesday

Which directory is worth paying for?

Several recommendation and lead sites want a monthly fee. The question is which, if any, earns its place next to paid search and the map.

    Which channel should we fund?
  4. Thursday

The site needs updating — or does it?

A family member offers to build a new site. The free report shows the gaps are a services page, a gallery with captions and reviews on the homepage.

Rebuild, or fix what we have?
  5. Sunday

Reviews on three sites, none on yours

A homeowner checks reviews on Google and two trade sites. Yours are good but scattered, and your own site shows none of them.

    Why aren't my reviews converting?
